Twenty years of marching and singing and tail wagging, and on May 7, 2022 the 20th Annual Rochester Dachshund Parade returns to Washington Square Park across from GEVA Theater starting at 10 AM. The springtime tradition that has delighted Rochester for two decades promises to keep the tried and true fun features of the event. Dachshund songs and oompah music, fashion show and more followed by the parade at approximately 11:30.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Rochester, 141 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14604 on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 1:00 pm to celebrate the life of the late Reverend Marilyle Sweet Page.
All are welcome. Please wear a mask if you are not vaccinated.

As the Dachshund Parade Coordinating Committee announced in January, this year's parade in Washington Square Park is dependent upon the City of Rochester lifting restrictions on gatherings. As of today, the Special Events Permit application contains Covid-19 restrictions that would prevent us from staging the parade. We on the committee are as disappointed as you are that we may have to postpone our gathering for another year, but your health and safety is our paramount concern. If conditions change, and we are able to schedule the parade in 2021, rest assured that you will hear it here first.
We are saddened to share the passing of Rev. Marilyle Sweet Page, the co-founder of the Rochester Dachshund Parade, who left us on February 9, 2021.
Rev. Page
and Rev. Thomas Hanson hosted the very first parade at the Episcopal Diocesan
Home on May 4, 2002, before moving to the current site at Washington Square
Park in 2005. Marilyle was the continuing spirit through 18 annual parades, and
we will carry that spirit into the future as a sweet remembrance.
The 19th Annual Dachshund Parade could not be held in Rochester in the year 2020, but we have high hopes for 2021. As the Covid-19 pandemic is still in full force, we do not expect to stage our event in late spring as we have in years past. Instead, we are hoping for circumstances to improve and looking to the fall of the year. With luck, we may be able to gather to celebrate our favorite breed before we see snow fall. Perhaps we'll all be together to celebrate Halloween with our Halloweenies!
All of this depends on our good friends at the City of Rochester being able to safely re-open Washington Square Park for our use, and for all of us to feel safe sharing that space with hundreds of dachshunds and their happy owners. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know when as soon as we can.
