2008 Rochester Dachshund Parade

How sorry are you if you didn't get out and see the 7th annual Dachshund Parade on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Washington Square Park in downtown Rochester, New York (see the video above for highlights and check out City Newspaper). There were standard and miniature dachshunds in smooth, wire and long hair varieties, some wearing costumes. They came in the hundreds along with members of their human families and other admirers. Their humans sang dachshund songs, bought dachshund gifts and even ate wieners on a bun!

The 2007 parade, held in May, attracted 375 dachshunds and more than 1000 human participants. Returning as emcee this year was Virginia Butler, R News anchor and dachshund lover. New this year was the parade’s sponsor, Monroe Veterinary Associates.

The 2008 Rochester Dachshund Parade was the best ever. The only thing missing was parade founder, Tom Hanson, who passed away last November. Tom loved dachshunds and was an active volunteer with the Rochester Humane Society at Lollypop Farm. Donations collected at this year’s parade were given to Lollypop Farm in Tom’s memory.
